Bedwellty Park will see its first Soap Box Derby this September!
This will be a time-trial race with one cart at a time racing down one of our historic paths. Categories are 12-17 year olds and Over 18s. Awards will be for the fastest cart in each category, as well as the overall fastest cart.
This is also a novelty race based on the famous wager between Ironmasters Samuel Homfray of Tredegar and Penydarren Ironworks, and Richard Crawshay of Cyfarthfa. Their bet was over a steam-powered locomotive carrying tons of iron over rails, and thus we will award another prize for the best locomotive-themed cart.
Little racers can also enter their teddy bears into the Bedwellty Teddy Bear Race. The teddy bears need to race in some kind of cart too, and the winner will be established by knock-out races. No entry form required - just bring your teddy cart and teddy bear on the day! The fastest teddy will win a prize.
For spectators there will be food, music, and a bouncy castle for children.
If you have any questions about the Bedwellty Soap Box Derby please phone us on 01495-353370 or contact them.
